DeCode/M researcher Júlia Garraio is quoted as a source in a story on harassment and the #MeToo movement in Portugal

DeCode/M researcher Júlia Garraio was quoted as a source in the article “Sexual harassment. #MeToo regains strength in Portugal”, written by Regina Nogueira Fernandes, and published by the Contacto platform, a newspaper for the Portuguese-speaking community in Luxembourg. The text features comments and analyses by the researcher on sexual harassment and the #MeToo movement in the country. Júlia co-coordinates the #MeToo thematic area in the research project DeCode/M.

Among the themes addressed by Júlia in the story is the discrediting of victims who denounce situations of harassment: “the complaint of a powerful man emerges and there is immediately a list of expressions of solidarity with him, which often involves insulting the alleged victim – self-seeking, opportunist, fake, manipulative, silly and so on. It is as if the presumption of innocence ceased to exist for the alleged victims and they also did not have the right to a good name”.
